Soroti Flying School, officially known as the East African Civil Aviation Academy (EACAA), is Uganda’s premier aviation training institution. Established in 1971, the academy was founded through a joint initiative by the East African Community (EAC) member states - Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania - to provide world-class pilot and aviation training for the region.

Located in Soroti, eastern Uganda, the school initially focused on training commercial and private pilots to support the growing aviation sector. However, following the collapse of the original EAC in 1977, Uganda took full control of the institution, continuing its mission of producing skilled aviators.

Over the years, Soroti Flying School has expanded its training programs, offering courses for commercial pilots, flight instructors, aircraft maintenance engineers, and other aviation professionals. The school boasts a fleet of training aircraft, including Cessna and Piper models, and a dedicated airfield for practical lessons.

Despite financial and operational challenges, the Ugandan government and international partners have made efforts to modernize the academy. Today, Soroti Flying School remains a key aviation training hub in East Africa, attracting students from across the continent. With ongoing investment in infrastructure and technology, the academy is poised to maintain its reputation as a leading center for aviation excellence in the region.
